No-confidence motion filed at Manilva Town Hall

Compromiso Manilva e IU buscan desbancar al PP recordando su victoria en las últimas municipales

-

A no-confidence motion has once again shaken the political landscape in Manilva within the last few minutes. The municipal groups Compromiso Manilva and Con Andalucía IU Manilva have formally registered at the Town Hall a no-confidence motion against the current mayor from the Partido Popular (PP), José Manuel Fernández.

The aim of this joint action is to install the leader of Compromiso Manilva, Mario Jiménez, as the town’s new mayor. The agreement between the two parties has reportedly been ratified before a notary, with both claiming to have the votes needed to force the removal of the current mayor.

This political move comes after the results of the last municipal elections in 2023, in which Compromiso Manilva emerged as the most-voted party with 5 councillors. Added to the 4 councillors of Con Andalucía IU Manilva, they would form a majority of 9 councillors, enough to unseat the current PP government team, which won 4 councillors.

In a joint statement, both political parties said they have «set aside their differences to form a progressive government that defends public management policies and improves our municipality».

They also justified the no-confidence motion by citing the «paralysis that exists in Manilva Town Hall caused by the current mayor», whose «inaction means projects and investments do not move forward».

Compromiso Manilva and Con Andalucía IU Manilva stressed that the no-confidence motion is «a totally democratic act» and appealed for respect for democracy «when it favours us and when it does not».

The debate and vote on the no-confidence motion, which will end with the investiture of the new mayor, will initially take place on 28 April.

The no-confidence motion highlights a new scenario. As a reminder, the results of the last municipal elections were as follows:

– Compromiso Manilva: 1,613 votes (5 councillors)
– Partido Popular (PP): 1,317 votes (4 councillors)
– Izquierda Unida (Con Andalucía IU Manilva): 1,307 votes (4 councillors)
– Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE): 1,068 votes (3 councillors)
– VOX: 302 votes (1 councillor)
