The Guardia Civil, as part of the so-called Operation ‘Impasible’, has dismantled a criminal organisation that brought in and distributed large quantities of hashish along the coasts of Málaga and Cádiz, and has arrested all 36 of its members. In addition, 3,150 kilograms of hashish, a boat and eleven vehicles, six of them stolen, have been seized, along with state-of-the-art telecommunications systems.
It was last March when Guardia Civil officers began the investigation after detecting an unidentified boat sailing off the coast of Manilva (Málaga). After setting up an operation to intercept it, the officers seized on the boat five bales of hashish weighing approximately 150 kilograms and an off-road vehicle, and arrested 21 people.
Using the information obtained as a result of this operation, Guardia Civil investigators then seized 42 bales of hashish weighing 1,260 kilograms and six vehicles in the town of Estepona (Málaga), and arrested three people. In the municipality of Barbate (Cádiz), 55 bales of hashish weighing 1,650 kilograms were seized, along with three vehicles and numerous electronic devices, and seven people were arrested.
Once the investigators had identified all the members of the organisation, five more members of the gang were arrested, leaving it completely dismantled, according to a statement from the Guardia Civil.
The organisation was highly specialised and hierarchical, with the head of the criminal group keeping a lieutenant in each province where they operated.
Its members also took numerous security measures, restricting the use of private communications. They used shuttle vehicles for travel, as well as decoy vehicles to place themselves between police vehicles and others used specifically to transport the hashish, which were fitted with a device to spray fire-extinguisher powder at police vehicles in the event of a getaway.
