One of the most notable items at the latest Urban Planning Board meeting held in the town was the approval of the costed report for the construction of sports facilities at the Manilva fairground.

The mayor, Mario Jiménez, the head of Urban Planning, Marcos Ruiz, the councillor for Sport, Manolo Gil, the councillor for New Technologies, Francisco Miguel Álvarez, and the Beaches representative, Eva Galindo, announced the details of this area, which is set to become the epicentre of sport and leisure in our municipality.

The project aims to create a space for sport and for families to enjoy, with a programme designed for all ages.

Councillor Manolo Gil welcomed these works, which will accommodate a range of sports. The facilities will include two five-a-side football courts, two basketball courts, two tennis courts, a volleyball court, a dodgeball court, a cycling gymkhana area and an area for traditional games. Calisthenics fans will also find their own space in the project, which will add both a skate area and a climbing area.

The whole complex will be surrounded by a three-lane athletics track and a cycle lane, as well as a two-lane straight for sprint events.

The town’s mayor, Mario Jiménez, said this is one of the most important projects of this term of office, with works expected to begin in September.

Of the fairground’s total area of 17,500 m², 11,036.00 m² will be set aside for the new sports facilities, which will also include a kiosk serving drinks and food to users, with tables and chairs for everyone to use and enjoy.
