The concessionaire of the Puerto Deportivo de La Duquesa, Marinas del Mediterráneo, has sent a statement to this newspaper clarifying its position following reports published in recent days about security problems in the area around the port. The statement reads as follows:
«In response to reports that have appeared in various media about an assault in the area around the Puerto de La Duquesa, the management of the Marina would like to offer a clarification to avoid confusion.
The events mentioned did not take place within the Marina’s concession area, but in adjoining areas belonging to the commercial and catering premises located in the surrounding area, which are managed independently and do not depend on the port.
The port precinct, which comprises the area under concession of the Puerto Deportivo de La Duquesa, has video surveillance systems and a team that maintains permanent contact with the relevant authorities, with the aim of guaranteeing the safety of users, customers and vessels.
The management of the Marina reiterates its commitment to the security and proper functioning of its facilities, as well as its full willingness to cooperate with the authorities and agents involved in order to help improve the area as a whole.
Thank you and kind regards,»
The statement comes after business owners in the area warned in previous weeks of a deterioration in security and called for urgent measures, which led to a meeting with Manilva Town Hall and a commitment from the Town Hall, together with the security forces, to step up police checks and surveillance in the area.
The clarification seeks to define possible responsibilities at a delicate time for the Puerto de la Duquesa, which is not going through its best moments and where business owners and traders in the area have decided to give a voice to this problem in an attempt to recover the harmony and tranquillity that have always characterised this tourist spot in the municipality.
