The meeting with Miguel Ángel Briones will take place this Friday at 11:30 in Málaga, after the meeting planned for 22 October was cancelled by the delegate himself half an hour beforehand.
Families from Manilva’s education community hope to obtain official information this Friday on the state of the second secondary school project. To that end, representatives of the AMPAS (parents’ associations), the management of IES Las Viñas, the education councillor and the mayor of the town will hold a meeting with the provincial education delegate in Málaga, Miguel Ángel Briones.
The meeting will be held at 11:30 at the offices of the Education Delegation and will be attended by the presidents of the AMPAS Santa Ana, Oleaje and El Cortinal, the vice-president of the AMPA Poniente and the management of IES Las Viñas. The Education councillor and the mayor of Manilva will also attend.
The meeting comes after the upset caused by the cancellation of the meeting planned for 22 October, which Briones called off barely half an hour before he was due to leave for Málaga. Some families had already arranged their working day, taking a day of holiday to travel to Málaga, and then saw Briones in the press at an event at the Palacio de Miraflores.
Following this, the AMPAS asked that the delegate himself travel to Manilva, considering that the journey of one institutional official was more logical and straightforward than that of several mothers and fathers who would have to take time off work and reorganise their family commitments. The request was not accepted and the meeting will finally take place at the Málaga Delegation headquarters.
The budget, another key issue
The meeting coincides with the presentation of the Junta de Andalucía’s budget for 2027, the details of which were due to be announced last Wednesday, but that appearance was postponed following the train accident in Toledo and the declaration of three days of official mourning.
Families hope to find out whether the new accounts include a specific allocation for the second secondary school and what planning exists to start up an infrastructure that Manilva has been demanding for years, especially given the high occupancy of IES Las Viñas.
Manilva.ws hopes that the meeting leads to good news and that the representatives of the education community can return with precise information and official documentation that make it possible to check the progress of the project. After so many commitments, promises and announcements, families need to know what concrete steps have been taken to make the new school a reality, and that their trip to Málaga is not another case of being taken for a ride, another lost working day and a waste of time.
