The telecoms operator Vodafone will connect more than 100 Andalusian municipalities to its 700 MHz 5G network, including Manilva. According to the company’s estimates, five million users will benefit from this improvement in the quality of internet connection. The 5G network allows content to be accessed at five times the speed of 4G, and allows a greater number of devices to be connected simultaneously without any loss of quality, among other advantages.

The installation will be carried out progressively until the end of the year, after the company acquired 2x10MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz band in July. In this first rollout, the operator has included 59 towns with fewer than 25,000 inhabitants, 14 with fewer than 50,000 and another 29 with more than 50,000 inhabitants. In total, more than five million Andalusians will be able to access a differential 5G service, which was already available in the capitals of Seville and Málaga.

Among all the Andalusian municipalities that will benefit from the 5G service before the end of the year, Almería has the most towns able to use this technology, with 21 municipalities, followed by 19 in Cádiz, 17 in Granada, 17 in Málaga, including Manilva, 10 in Huelva, 8 in Seville, 7 in Jaén and 1 in Córdoba, as well as in Ceuta and Melilla.

Thanks to the 5G network, residents of these municipalities will have connectivity to download content at 5 times the speed of 4G, lower latency to stream or play online without delay, and the ability to have a greater number of devices connected simultaneously without losing quality.

In addition, the 5G network on the 700MHz frequency will extend the coverage footprint considerably and offer better coverage inside buildings too, with plenty of bandwidth available. «One of the great accelerators of digitalisation is 5G and, for that reason, in 2019 we decided to launch this service for our customers in the region», says Rafael Alcaide, regional director of Vodafone in Andalucía, adding: «Vodafone’s 5G network was already available in Seville and Málaga and we will end the year with a full presence in 100 Andalusian municipalities, as well as in Ceuta and Melilla, with the aim that nobody is left behind, in order to speed up recovery and take advantage of digital transformation».
