The process to appoint the new head of Manilva’s Local Police has finally been annulled after the partial acceptance of the objections lodged against the call for applications.
According to the resolution issued by the Mayor’s Office, the objections that were accepted concern steps in the selection procedure, which has forced the Town Hall to declare the process null and void and to return proceedings to the point before the approval of the terms and conditions.
A process that will have to start again
The resolution establishes that the terms and conditions governing the call for applications must be annulled and drawn up again in accordance with the law, which means the whole procedure will have to restart from the beginning.
This resolution renders ineffective a process which, as we reported, made no sense, since the chosen candidate was announced days before the call for the post was officially published.
The Town Hall announced on 2 March that Javier González would be the new head of the Local Police, even before the terms and conditions of the procedure were published. They were made public 17 days later, on 19 March, when an urgent call for applications by free appointment was opened, with a shortened deadline for submitting applications, which ended with two applications submitted and a single candidate admitted.
Now, following the objections lodged, the Town Hall itself acknowledges irregularities in the procedure, which has led to its complete annulment.
With this decision, the appointment of the new head of the Local Police is left in suspense pending the approval of new terms and conditions and a fresh call for the process.
The situation once again raises doubts about the handling of some procedures and, in this case, about the stability of the leadership of the police force, which in recent months has been marked by changes, announcements of new recruits and now also by the annulment of such an important administrative process.
