Manilva PP Denounces the «Lie» over VPO Housing and Explains Its Absence from the Council Meeting: «We Will Not Be Accomplices to Falsehoods»
The Partido Popular (PP) in Manilva, led by José Manuel Fernández, has launched a fierce attack on the government following yesterday’s ordinary council meeting, which it left before the session began. At a press conference called on the Coto Real site itself, the municipal group explained its absence as a «sign of protest» and exposed the announcement of Viviendas de Protección Oficial (VPO, officially protected housing) made by the Urban Planning councillor Juan Carlos Morejón, describing it as «a lie and a political smokescreen».
The PP’s Absence: A Gesture of «Protest»
José Manuel Fernández began his address by explaining that the decision not to attend the council meeting was «a sign of protest» at the «lack of negotiation» and the «waste of public money» by the current governing team.
«We did not take part precisely because we did not want to, we did not want yesterday to be accomplices to lies, to endorse a speech and to try to dress up a council meeting that was not only empty of content, but riddled with lies and with waste of public money».
The PP spokesman said the council meeting was used as a «smokescreen» to divert attention from the council’s «lack of management», highlighting the high spending on festivities. In this regard, he denounced that the figures discussed in the session show «public squandering on parties and shindigs», which the Finance councillor himself puts at more than €1,300,000.
«A Great Lie»: The Denial of the VPO Housing
The central point of the appearance was the rebuttal of the announcement of a development of VPO homes on the plot where the press conference was held. Fernández was forceful in his statements, accusing the government of using the land as a «weapon and political marketing tool, marketing that at this moment is fake».
The PP dismantles the housing project on three key points:
- They are not VPO, but VPP (Viviendas de Promoción Pública, publicly promoted housing): «They talk about VPO homes, but they are not, they are publicly promoted homes». Fernández explained that the difference is crucial, as those applying for them will need to «have the guarantees and sufficient income» to answer to the developer or the bank, which removes the social nature of VPO housing.
- Rotating Rental Homes: The municipal group stated that the spokesman of the governing partner himself confirmed that the homes will be «rotating rentals». «They have played with the feelings of families and with the needs of residents who really need a home and who hoped to buy», Fernández lamented.
- Undermining of the Mayor: José Manuel Fernández insisted that the mayor, Mario Jiménez, contradicted his Urban Planning councillor at the council meeting, «reminding him that these are rotating rental homes» and that the final decision will be taken by the banks or the developer, showing the lack of rigour in the announcement.
The PP Extends a Hand to the Mayor
Despite the harsh criticism, José Manuel Fernández ended the press conference by extending a hand to the mayor, Mario Jiménez, whom he credited with a «burst of sincerity» for acknowledging the truth about the land at the council meeting.
«The Partido Popular extends a hand to Compromiso Manilva, extends a hand to Mario Jiménez so that he breaks the chains that hold him, that bind him to stale left-wing policies. The votes of the Partido Popular will always be at the service of residents, Mr Jiménez», said Fernández.
The PP spokesman stressed that they are not after «armchairs or salaries», but that their votes are «at zero cost to benefit residents», urging the mayor to seek the stability that, in their view, is being blocked by his current governing partners.
