Manilva continues to improve, very slowly, and for the fourth consecutive day the active incidence rate in the town has fallen again. Despite 22 new positive cases being reported today, the Active Incidence over the last 14 days has dropped from 1,131.5 to 1,101 (cases per 100,000 inhabitants). We remind readers that yesterday the population figure used to calculate these data was updated from 15,528 to 16,439 inhabitants, which contributes to the fall in the municipality’s active incidence rate, calculated as follows: AI = «(number of positive cases x 100,000) / number of inhabitants».

The Regional Ministry of Health and Families, in collaboration with the Andalusian Institute of Statistics and Cartography, has published today’s figures for Friday 29 January, showing 22 new positive cases and 26 recoveries, so the number of active cases over the last 14 days falls to 181. The total number of confirmed cases in Manilva since the start of the pandemic now stands at 627 people and 8 deaths.

The negative figure, and the reason this downward trend cannot yet be confirmed, is the cumulative incidence over the last 7 days, which rises from 541.4 to 565.72 (positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

As of today, Friday 29 January, the active cases over the last 14 days are:
* Manilva: 181 cases (5 fewer)
* Estepona: 719 cases (64 more)
* San Roque: 494 cases (16 fewer)
* Castellar: 68 cases (unchanged)
* Los Barrios: 189 cases (24 fewer)
* La Línea: 1,085 cases (164 fewer)
* Algeciras: 765 cases (49 fewer)
* Benahavis: 24 cases (7 fewer)
* Marbella: 1,790 cases (49 more)
* Casares: 75 cases (14 more)

Casares exceeds the active incidence rate of 1,000 per 100,000 inhabitants, the limit set by the Junta de Andalucía for moving to Level 4 grade 2. As a result, next week the provincial committee of experts will decide whether Casares moves up a level, which would mean the closure of all non-essential activity for at least 14 days.

This newsroom has produced a chart showing the total positive cases since the start of the pandemic, the details of the last 14 days and recoveries, which we update from Monday to Friday and have included in our «Coronavirus Special.»
