Despite today’s rain, the Drought Management Commission of the River Basin District of the Andalusian Mediterranean Basins approved on Friday the declaration of a state of exceptional drought in the water supply systems of the whole of the Western Costa del Sol, which includes Manilva. As a result, water may not be used for street washing, filling private swimming pools, watering gardens, public and private parks or golf courses, or washing cars outside authorised establishments.

The scant rainfall during the current hydrological year means that the Western Costa del Sol, with rainfall of only 21.54% of its historical average, has a volume of reservoir water representing 37.74% of total capacity.

In addition, a transfer to the Western Costa del Sol System of a flow of up to 400 litres per second is planned for the months of May, June, July, August and September, amounting to a total of five cubic hectometres, and it has been approved to reduce urban supply by ten per cent from the publication in the BOJA (Official Gazette of the Regional Government of Andalusia) of the declaration of a state of exceptional drought.
