The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the Beaches councillor, Eva Galindo, took part in the presentation of the Strategy for the protection of the Málaga coast.
Half of Málaga’s beaches are at serious risk of erosion, 40% show a moderate level and 5% can be considered slight, with climate change having been very damaging.
This is one of the main conclusions of the meeting, which was attended by municipal officials from all the towns along the coast.
This erosion means that the appropriate projects must be carried out so that the defence of nature and the coastline can be combined with the economic and social development of the population.
The document is a roadmap to identify which parts of the coast are most affected and where, therefore, action must be taken as a priority. In this respect, the Manilva mayor included the long-awaited regeneration of the Castillo beaches, where the request will once again be passed on to the Demarcación de Costas (the Coastal Authority).
This widespread problem is being tackled by Manilva Town Hall with a great deal of municipal effort devoted to cleaning the beaches and dealing with unexpected storms that are very damaging to local infrastructure.
