The Local Police and the Guardia Civil had to enter the room with a master key to arrest the man, given the risk to the child. A security guard had previously prevented the suspect from reaching the woman.

A man has been arrested at a hotel in Manilva after allegedly assaulting his partner and then locking himself in a room with a knife and one of his children, who is a minor. The incident prompted a police operation involving officers from the Local Police and the Guardia Civil.

The events took place on the family’s last day in the municipality, shortly before they were due to travel back to their country of origin.

The woman fled with two of the children

The intervention began after a call to the Local Police reporting a possible incident of gender-based violence at the hotel. According to the information available, it all began with a heated argument between the couple inside the room.

Faced with the man’s allegedly violent behaviour, which reportedly included physically assaulting the woman, she managed to leave the accommodation with two of the children and get to safety.

The suspect tried to follow her through the grounds of the complex, but a security guard intervened on noticing the situation. The employee got in his way and the two struggled until the man ended up on the ground, preventing him from reaching the woman.

The Police and the Guardia Civil entered the room

After the confrontation, the man went back to the room and locked himself in with another of the children, this time armed with a knife. The situation caused moments of tension and required the deployment of officers from Manilva Local Police and the Guardia Civil.

Given the possible danger to the child’s physical safety, the officers asked hotel staff for a master key to gain access to the room. The officers entered wearing protective equipment and managed to bring the suspect under control.

The operation ended with the man’s arrest as the alleged perpetrator of a gender-based violence offence.

For the moment, the family’s nationality has not been made public, nor have any further details been released about the personal circumstances of those involved.
