Following the award of the cleaning service contract, formalised at yesterday’s council meeting, where Agustín Vargas, representing Izquierda Unida, asked for explanations about rumours circulating in the town concerning some briefcases and the alleged hiring of relatives of the governing team by the company awarded the contract, the various members of the town council were quick to demand a retraction and an apology for the accusations, which undermined their honour, and which the opposition party’s representative had introduced into the debate.
Vargas did not retract, and his party has today issued a strongly worded press release which states the following:
At the extraordinary council meeting held yesterday to privatise our town’s cleaning service, at a cost of 31 million euros over 10 years , the Mayor and some members of the governing team directly accused us of attacking their honour .
This is said by a Mayor who has put the town in the sights of the public prosecutor , a Mayor for whom years in prison are being sought for corruption , it is also said by a first Deputy Mayor who appears as the prosecution’s only witness against the Mayor, but it is also said by a third person , the very same one who appeared as a private prosecutor against his own mayor . In other words, in a few months we will see the mayor sitting in the dock, and in the dock opposite, trying to have him convicted, we will see his two governing partners.
After all this, they dare to speak to us about honour .
We also find it amusing that a governing team should speak to us about honour when some of its councillors are only seen working when payday arrives .
It is easier to see them taking their children to and from school, or shopping in department stores during working hours .
It is also curious that we are lectured about honour when Compromiso Manilva has a delegate on the mancomunidad (the number 6 on its list) , at 35,000 euros a year, and without going to work! And what was our surprise? When we asked for the work reports, it turned out that he has not presented a single project … Do you want to talk about honour ?
Are you trying to give lessons in morality when you award the publicity campaign for the recycling centre to firms close to the government , without a tender ?
It is hard to utter that word when you have plunged our TOWN into an unprecedented decline , privatisations , precarious contracts , inability to resolve vital issues , public insecurity , dirt , wholly unacceptable unemployment rates , and so an endless list of blunders that began when you signed the pact of shame.
You should replace the word honour with SHAME.
