Izquierda Unida is calling a council meeting from the opposition benches, demanding the resignation of Mario Jiménez as mayor of Manilva and of Paqui López as delegated councillor.
Today, 6 May 2021, the Izquierda Unida Manilva Municipal Group has felt obliged, owing to the negligence of the PSOE and the PP, to call an Extraordinary Council Meeting demanding the resignation of Mario Jiménez as Mayor of Manilva and of Paqui López as Delegated Councillor.
Izquierda Unida cannot accept that two people who are going to sit in the dock accused of political corruption, twice in the next two months (on 19 May and 9 July), should continue to be the face and the highest representation of Manilva.
The national leaders of the PSOE and the PP often boast of their ethical code and say that corruption is a thing of the past, when the reality is that they breach it depending on the circumstances.
Furthermore, in this matter there is the curious circumstance that, in both court cases, the private prosecution has been brought throughout the proceedings by the Partido Popular.
And in one of the two cases, the one to be held on 9 July, one of the main prosecution witnesses against both defendants is the First Deputy Mayor and Spokesperson of the Socialist Party, Diego José Jiménez.
And yet in Manilva they are supporting a government and a Mayor who do quite the opposite, and there are plenty of examples, of which we will highlight a few:
Since the start of the term, the government has systematically refused to provide all the documentation requested by the opposition, displaying an unprecedented level of secrecy, and trying to prevent opposition councillors from scrutinising the government’s actions.
The Mayor himself, at the most recent council meetings, and recorded by the cameras of Radio Televisión Manilva, acknowledged cronyism in the hiring by the company awarded the cleaning contract.
This Mayor has achieved what for some time seemed unthinkable: uniting all the unions against the government and its management.
We therefore appeal to the PSOE and the PP. DO NOT SUPPORT MARIO JIMÉNEZ AS MAYOR AND PAQUI LÓPEZ AS DELEGATED COUNCILLOR FOR A SECOND LONGER.
Manilva deserves to be known for its beaches, its beach bars, its vineyards, its gastronomy and the kindness of its people. It does not deserve to be known for the corruption of its leaders.
