The opening of a café kiosk in the Plaza de la Vendimia de Manilva is under scrutiny from Izquierda Unida Manilva, which has denounced on its social media channels the possible ‘hand-picked’ award of the concession to a former councillor who was number 2 in the town’s Partido Popular.

According to the only party currently active in the opposition, «In the end it will be a former Partido Popular councillor who, without any kind of procedure, is going to get not only a kiosk in the square at the entrance to Manilva, but also the Town Hall providing her with all the services free of charge so she can operate it, such as public toilets, etc.»

At the same time, they question the need to build public toilets in this square, since for some time many residents have been calling for the same facilities in other squares in the town, such as Pozo del Rey, Plaza de Martín Carpena or Plaza del Hondón, without anything having been achieved to date.

According to the mayor’s decree, to which this newsroom has had access, the structure would be a removable kiosk and picnic area of 12 square metres. At the request of the applicant, J.O.V., and after studying its legal basis, the concession is granted on a revocable basis (en precario) for a non-extendable period of 2 years. This takes into account initiatives from residents that may benefit tourism, the public interest or the creation of self-employment, in a pilot programme that will allow an administrative concession to be assessed, given the lack of certainty over the viability required to ensure the profitability of an administrative concession.
