This morning, work has begun on installing the new bins, which will form part of the town’s street furniture and are one more tool for continuing to improve the cleanliness of our streets.
They have a capacity of 3,000 litres and are fitted with a pedal to open them hands-free, although they can also be opened manually.
The collection system will be different: a hook will lift and empty each bin from the top of the lorry. The lorries will also soon be replaced by a side-loading model, which will make the operators’ work easier and improve the cleaning system.
FCC, the company in charge of the cleaning service in the town, is continuing to introduce all the improvements set out in the contract and to put in order a very poor service that the municipality had been dragging along for years.
The investments made in underground bins will be left behind. Since they were brought into use they have been problematic to collect and maintain, and most of them have been out of service for more than two years.
