Following the appropriate environmental criteria so as not to harm the protected fauna and flora of the area, work began this morning to improve and refurbish 670 linear metres of path, 3 metres wide, in the Playas de Manilva Ecological Reserve, through which the Senda Litoral coastal path of the Provincial Council (Diputación Provincial) also runs. The Provincial Council is funding the €214,000 budget for the work, as councillor Diego José Jiménez explained.
The work will include renewing the surface with gravel and binder. This is a durable ecological surface that will remain in perfect condition, as it is very well suited to this type of terrain.
In addition, wooden posts with rope will be installed to finish off the path.
As the environment councillor, Laura López, explained, because of the flowering and growth of the Jasione corymbosa and the nesting of the Kentish plover on the grasslands, this is the right time of year to carry out the work without affecting these protected species.
The path will be closed to pedestrians on this stretch while the work lasts, approximately two months.
