The food safety agency has stated that the cured meats were distributed in Madrid, Galicia, the Basque Country, Aragón, Asturias and Castilla y León. Investigations are also continuing, so «it cannot be ruled out that there may have been redistribution to other autonomous communities».
AESAN has recommended not consuming the products concerned and returning them to the point of sale so they can be withdrawn from the market. Anyone who has eaten the affected batches and has symptoms consistent with listeriosis, such as fever, headache, vomiting or diarrhoea, is advised by the agency to go to a health centre.
Listeria in Catalan cured meats
Last year, the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition published another food alert after listeria was detected in several batches of cured meats from Catalonia made by Embotits D’Oix.
At the beginning of March this year, the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Health and Families issued a new notice over the presence of the same bacterium in fresh, semi-cured and cured goat’s and mixed-milk cheese from the company Hermanos Vargas Jiménez S.L. in the town of Álora.
The company immediately activated its protocol to withdraw the product, which had been distributed in Estepona, Alhaurín de la Torre, Mijas, Cártama, Álora, Málaga, Manilva and Ronda.
