Manilva Town Hall continues to work on one of the most important urban transformation projects planned for the area around El Castillo de La Duquesa. The first phase of the covering of the El Estanquillo stream has been given the green light and work is expected to begin in about a month.
The councillor for Infrastructure and Public Works, Marcos Ruiz, has visited the site together with the head of the department, Alejandro Medina, municipal technicians, representatives of the Diputación de Málaga and those in charge of the contracted company, with the aim of seeing first-hand the details and planning of this first stage of work.
This phase involves a 60-metre intervention that will improve the connection between the village of El Castillo de La Duquesa and the Los Granados area, while also addressing an insanitary situation linked to the waste currently discharged into the area around the stream.
The works include the installation of prefabricated concrete structures, designed to ensure the water flows properly and to allow, at a later stage, the creation of a walkable surface that will connect both banks of the stream. The project is thus the first step towards the future creation of a boulevard that will make it possible to restore this space and bring out its value.
The project is part of the Diputación de Málaga’s concertation plans and has an investment of 280,000 euros. As well as improving accessibility and the environmental conditions of the area, the work will prepare the ground for the development of future social housing projects on the municipal plot next to the area of intervention.
