Manilva Town Hall has announced that the Fiesta de la Luna will be held on Saturday 13 July in the plaza del Cali in Sabinillas. As has happened in previous years, the date contradicts the main idea behind the festival’s name, since on 13 July the moon will be in its first quarter phase, not a full moon.
Although the Full Moon Festival in Sabinillas has become established as a popular event in the area, the mismatch between the chosen date and the actual lunar phase causes some confusion among attendees, visitors and residents. This year’s poster has undergone a «small» change, as it did last year, with the word «Full» removed so that it now reads «Fiesta de la Luna» (Moon Festival).
Despite this inconsistency, Tourism councillor Dean Shelton has said that the festival will offer a wide programme of activities for all audiences, including aerial acrobatics, street parades, a market, live music and DJs.
Programme:
21:00: Opening of the Fiesta de la Luna, official toast and wine tasting.
21:30 – 23:30: Stilt walkers’ parade.
21:45: First performance of the aerial show.
22:00 – 23:00: Music on the 4 stages.
23:00: Second performance of the aerial show.
23:15: First set of the 80s concert by the band Kassia.
00:00: Address by the governing team.
00:05: Ball launch and assorted entertainment. Music with DJs.
00:30: Second set of the 80s concert.
Ban on «Chinese lanterns»:
It is important to note that, as in previous years, «Chinese lanterns» and any device that could start a fire are prohibited during the event.
