The Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has announced an extraordinary Council of Ministers next Thursday to remove the requirement to wear face masks outdoors from 26 June.
Sánchez made the announcement at the start of his speech at the close of the 26th meeting of the Cercle de Economía, held in Barcelona.
«This will be the last weekend with face masks in open-air spaces,» the Prime Minister said, adding that the government’s forecasts have proved not only optimistic but will end up being exceeded.
The Prime Minister had already hinted at this announcement just a couple of days ago, when he said that Spain had reached «cruising speed in vaccination», and that «we will soon be leaving face masks behind in the street«. Sánchez stated last Wednesday that within a few days «we will have more than 15 million people fully vaccinated and, within a few weeks, 50% of the population with at least one dose».
