The Andalusian Regional Government’s Department of Health and Families, through the Directorate General of Public Health and Pharmaceutical Regulation, has issued an alert over the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in fresh, semi-cured and cured goat’s cheese and mixed-milk cheese distributed in the province of Málaga.

The cheeses come from the company Hermanos Vargas Jiménez, SL, based in the Málaga town of Álora, and are sold under the El Llano Jaral brand, in packs of two kilos, one kilo, 500 grams and 250 grams. Listeria has been detected in all batches and expiry dates.

The company has activated its product withdrawal protocol by notifying its customers immediately, the Andalusian Regional Government said in a statement on Friday.

The products have been distributed in the towns of Estepona, Alhaurín de la Torre, Mijas, Cártama, Álora, Málaga, Manilva and Ronda.

This information has already been passed to the official inspection services in the province concerned, so that the effective withdrawal of the affected products from sales channels can be verified.

Based on the information available, no cases associated with this food alert have been reported in Andalusia. People who have affected products at home are advised not to eat them and to return them to the place of purchase.

Anyone who has eaten products from the affected batch and has symptoms consistent with listeriosis (vomiting, diarrhoea or fever) is advised to go to a health centre and inform the health professionals.
