At around 4 am on Friday, a robbery worthy of a film took place at a well-known shop in Sabinillas. In an operation that had been meticulously planned and was not improvised, the thieves managed to clear out a large part of the valuable items from a jewellery shop on calle Duquesa de Arcos in about 3 minutes.
According to sources at this outlet, the thieves, hooded so as not to be recognised, left a vehicle across the entrance to the street to obstruct any possible intervention or block the way for any other vehicle, and used another to get into the premises by ramming (crashing the vehicle into the doors of the premises to force their way in), using a «Seat Ibiza» that they had stolen minutes earlier on Avenida de España, Ed. Puerta Mar, which is next to the Guardia Civil barracks in Sabinillas. Once inside, they smashed all the display cabinets and stands to get away with a substantial haul of gold and other high-value items.
The mayor of Manilva, Jose Manuel Fernández, wasted no time in contacting the owners of the shop to offer them his unconditional support and to work to eradicate this type of criminal activity in the municipality.
The judicial police arrived promptly at the premises, where they carried out a preliminary examination to establish what happened and to arrest those responsible as soon as possible so that they can be immediately brought before a court.
The Manilva Town Hall sent a message of reassurance to the public, announcing that security is a priority and that it will be improved considerably.
In cases like this, public cooperation is essential, and any clue or unusual movement that may have been noticed in the moments before or after the robbery could be decisive and of great help in tracking down those responsible.
