A meeting has been held in the council chamber between Manilva Local Police officers and the mayor of the municipality, José Manuel Fernández, who is also directly responsible for public safety.
At the meeting, the mayor introduced himself to all members of the police force and congratulated them on their performance on the night of San Juan, as well as on the work they carry out day to day.
The mayor said he comes with a commitment to improve things, and asked members of the local police force for an effort for the benefit of residents and visitors, as a police presence is needed on the streets of the municipality, and, with summer approaching, especially in tourist areas.
The mayor undertook to try to bring to the town officers from other police forces on the Costa del Sol on secondment, something he is already working on, in order to strengthen security across the municipality. He also stated that the Local Police will be provided with the resources they need to carry out their daily work properly.
He also announced that Manilva will have 6 dogs trained in Torremolinos for the creation of a canine unit.
In response to questions from officers, he said that during the current term of office an attempt will be made to expand the police force, as far as the law allows, and he also made clear that security guards will be on the street, warning of possible offences that may be committed and, if necessary, alerting officers.
He said that the force must be flexible and friendly with residents and visitors, but that where penalties have to be imposed, they will be carried out.
