El Castillo de la Duquesa is preparing to celebrate its patron saint. The main day for this community will be Saturday 16 July, when, on the occasion of the day of the Virgen del Carmen, cheerful reveille music and a parade led by the charanga Los Mihitas will take place at eight in the morning. At eleven it will be the turn of the traditional games in plaza Miramar, organised by the Hermandad de la Virgen del Carmen.

Later in the afternoon, at half past six, the Santa Misa Rociera will be held in honour of the Patron Saint of Sailors at the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, sung by the Coro de la Escuela Municipal de Música. Straight afterwards, the procession will take place through the streets of El Castillo, accompanied by the Banda Municipal de Música, ending with the embarkation of the image at Puerto de la Duquesa, which will then sail along the coast of the municipality.

The celebration will continue at half past ten with a performance by the Orquesta Latidos and, at one in the morning, the group Alejados will entertain those present with a tribute to Manolo García, El Último de la Fila and Spanish pop.

Many preparations have been organised beforehand for such a special date. This very weekend the activities begin with the 7-a-side football tournament, to be played at the Las Viñas pitch, with teams from El Castillo, Sabinillas and Manilva, while on Saturday 9 July the traditional fishing competition will take place.

Before all this, on Friday 15 July the extensive programme will begin at seven in the evening with the Gran Fiesta Holli Colours on the beach at El Castillo. That day, from nine in the evening, children will be able to enjoy the funfair rides at a price of 1€.

At ten at night, the Coronación de las Reinas y Damas, organised by the Hermandad itself, will take place in plaza Miramar. Half an hour later, one of the main moments of the festivities will arrive with the performance of Antonio Cortés and Rocío Alcalá. At half past midnight, the group Compás Flamenco will bring its popular, contemporary repertoire for the enjoyment of those present.

On Sunday 17 July the activities will resume with the Moraga (a traditional beach barbecue) in plaza Miramar, from two in the afternoon.

At half past four, the group El Callejón will perform, while at half past five the Gran Fiesta del Agua will be held in the Parque de El Huerto and in plaza Baños Romanos.

At half past seven the Escuela Municipal de Expresión Corporal de Jéssica Quiñones will perform in plaza Miramar, while the closing act of the festivities will be Los Barrieros del Sur with their tribute to El Barrio, from nine at night.

Both the Hermano Mayor, José Becerra, and the Town Hall representatives who collaborate in and organise this Verbena, Daniel Muñoz from the Fiestas department and Alba Jiménez from the Culture department, have encouraged all residents and tourists to enjoy all the activities and concerts prepared for the occasion.
