The fairs and festivals of the municipality will return to the fairground. This was announced by the mayor of the town, Mario Jiménez, on the RTV programme «El Ayuntamiento Responde«, in which he acknowledged that «many nuisances arise in the town centres.»
The formalisation of the purchase, in recent days, of this land, which until now was not municipal property, appears to be the trigger for this decision. It should be remembered that in 2017, with Mario Jiménez as mayor and Agustín Vargas as councillor for Festivals and the driving force behind the return of the fairs to the three urban centres, he set out his arguments: that local businesses would benefit directly from our festivities, that our traditions would be revived and that organisational costs would be reduced.
On 5 February 2017 a public vote was held, with a low turnout of 9%, with 1,236 people taking part according to municipal sources. Of these, 847 voted in favour of changing the way these festivals are held, while 387 supported what had been the existing arrangement until then, with the municipality’s fair held in a single location, the fairground.
