Manilva Town Hall, through the Environment department, headed by Laura López, as the competent authority for monitoring potentially dangerous animals, informs the owners of these animals that they are required to obtain a municipal licence to keep them.

In accordance with the article on the legal regime for keeping potentially dangerous animals in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, anyone who has acquired an animal of this type, regardless of how it was acquired, is obliged to meet the legal requirements for keeping it, specifically obtaining an administrative licence granted by the Town Hall.

The purpose of the licence is to determine the ability of the person who owns, possesses or keeps the animal to look after, handle and control it, as well as to guarantee the existence of third-party liability insurance, which is compulsory to cover possible damage to third parties caused by the animal.

If the keeper of the potentially dangerous animal does not hold this municipal licence, the aforementioned regulations empower the Town Hall to take measures to seize and impound the animal until the legal requirements for keeping it have been regularised, without prejudice to any penalties that may be imposed.

Potentially dangerous dogs are those belonging to a breed type that, because of their aggressive nature, size or jaw strength, are capable of endangering the lives or physical wellbeing of people or other animals, or of causing significant damage to property, and in any case specimens of the breeds listed and their crosses. These are:
Pitt Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Tosa Inu, Akita Inu and Doberman.

Keeping potentially dangerous dogs without a municipal licence is classed as a very serious offence and carries a financial penalty of between 2,404.06 and 15,025.30 euros.

To obtain the corresponding administrative licence, as well as to register the animals in the Municipal Register of Companion Animals, applicants must complete the application for an administrative licence to keep potentially dangerous animals, accompanied by the following documentation:
– Photocopy of national identity card (DNI), passport or residence card and, where applicable, a document proving the position or representation held. (Over 18)
-Certificate of criminal record.
– Certificate confirming that the applicant has not been penalised in the last three years for serious or very serious offences.
– Certificate of physical fitness and psychological aptitude for keeping potentially dangerous animals.
– Proof of third-party liability insurance with cover of not less than 175,000€ per incident.
– Original veterinary certificate for the animal confirming its state of health and the absence of any illness or disorder that would make it particularly dangerous.
-Photocopy of the identification certificate (microchip).
