More than 100 people attended the demonstration called by the AMPA Oleaje of CEIP San Luis de Sabinillas on Thursday, which began at the San Luis de Sabinillas school at 19:30 and followed this route: Duquesa de Arcos, C/ Aurora Albornoz, Avda de Andalucía, C/ Miguel Delibes and Avda de Manilva, where participants stopped for about 5 minutes before finishing at the Sabinillas Mayor’s Office.
The event was attended mainly by families with children at the school itself, supported throughout by the mayor of the town, the education councillor and other councillors, as well as staff from the Andalusian education union USTEA, in defence of Public Education for everyone.
Before the march began, the following manifesto was read:
«On 30 June 2022, a call is made to all families and to anyone who wants quality education in our municipality to support the request for more resources for children with special needs at CEIP San Luis de Sabinillas. Since the previous academic year we have been highlighting the difficult situation our school (CEIP San Luis de Sabinillas) is going through in carrying out one of the principles of our education system, that of inclusion, set out in Organic Law 3/2020 and implemented through attention to diversity.
At our school we currently have more than fifty pupils with specific educational support needs (NEAE). These pupils need specific qualified staff in order to be given the attention they deserve, such as a PTIS, PT, ATAL, AL, etc. Because of the very high number of pupils, it is not possible to adequately meet their educational and care needs, which to some extent affects the whole of the rest of the class.
Relying on the legislation that applies to us, Law 9/1999 of 18 November on Educational Solidarity, and Organic Law 2/2006 of 3 May on Education, amended by Organic Law 3/2020 of 29 December (LOMLOE), the public education authorities are responsible for ensuring the resources necessary so that pupils who require educational attention different from the ordinary can reach the maximum possible development of their personal abilities and the objectives set generally for all pupils.
We are demonstrating at this time because the specialised educational attention for these pupils is insufficient, subjecting the entire teaching staff to professional stress and pressure that hinders their great work in the conditions that the public education community deserves. The pupils and families do not receive all the educational attention they need.
We consider it an ethical obligation and a matter of social commitment to demonstrate in Sabinillas to denounce and make public this unsustainable situation the school is going through, and to ask the Education Authority once again to strengthen the provision of human resources for attention to diversity, as we have requested on several occasions from the school itself and from the AMPA Oleaje.
WE REQUEST:
– 1 new Hearing and Language (AL) teacher.
– 1 new school counsellor.
– 1 new Social Integration Technical Professional (PTIS).
– 1 new Therapeutic Pedagogue.
Resources must be where the pupils are, not waiting on a desk in an office.
We begin the march in an orderly manner to urge the Authority to provide the resources we require.»
The march ended without incident at 20:00 at the door of the Sabinillas Mayor’s Office, where all those attending were thanked.
