Manilva’s PP is calling for the Local Police recruitment exams to be suspended as a precaution because of the appeals lodged.
The selection process to recruit new officers to Manilva’s Local Police has a new development. The Partido Popular of Manilva has formally asked the Town Hall to suspend the exams as a precaution, arguing that the appeals lodged by several candidates could compromise the legal certainty of the procedure.
The request comes just a few weeks after the Town Hall published the provisional lists of admitted and excluded candidates for the two calls currently under way, one for three posts and the other for four, as part of the municipal plan to expand the Local Police force.
Eight known appeals
According to the Popular Municipal Group, it is aware of at least eight appeal submissions registered by different candidates against the conduct of the selection tests.
The PP stresses that the appellants include candidates who scored above 7 out of 10, so it considers that the complaints «cannot be attributed solely to the discontent of those who did not pass the exam».
Call to halt the procedure
The PP spokesman, José Manuel Fernández, believes the Town Hall should halt the process as a precaution until all the complaints lodged have been resolved.
According to the Partido Popular, the requests made by the candidates in their appeals include declaring the exam void, repeating the tests in full with a new assessment panel, opening an information and disciplinary file, and investigating various incidents that occurred during the exams.
In addition, according to the political party, some of the submissions warn of the possible filing of criminal action for alleged offences related to the procedure, a matter whose possible existence would be for the competent bodies to determine, if applicable.
The PP asks for access to the whole file
Alongside the request for suspension as a precaution, the Popular Municipal Group has registered a request for access to the complete administrative file on the exams.
The party is asking for a copy of all the appeals, submissions, challenges and documentation added to the procedure, with the aim, it says, of carrying out its oversight role and learning the extent of the complaints lodged.
Recent background
The controversy comes at a time when the Local Police selection processes have taken on particular prominence in recent months because of the Town Hall’s publications, with its mayor at the helm, announcing that its top priority was expanding the municipality’s Local Police force to increase security.
On the one hand, the Town Hall has two separate calls open to fill a total of seven Local Police posts.
On the other, just a few days ago the Town Hall itself had to restart from scratch the procedure to fill the post of Local Police Chief, after cancelling the previous call having partially upheld the objections lodged against that process.
The Town Hall has yet to comment
So far, Manilva Town Hall has not made any public statement on the appeals lodged, on their resolution, or on the request for suspension as a precaution put forward by the Partido Popular.
It will be for the Town Hall itself to resolve the administrative appeals lodged and decide whether the procedure continues or whether it takes any measure while the complaints are examined.
In its statement, the Partido Popular insists that it does not prejudge the truth of the complaints made by the candidates, but maintains that, given the seriousness of the allegations registered, it is necessary to act with the utmost prudence and transparency to guarantee the legal certainty of the selection process and confidence in the recruitment of the future Local Police officers.
