The emergency plan from the Directorate General for the Coast and Sea, following last week’s easterly storm, initially envisages work on 39 beaches along the Málaga coastline, including Manilva.
Technicians from the Coastal Demarcation continue to assess the consequences of the storm, while the natural regeneration of the coastline continues now that the period of heavy seas has ended. However, an initial budget of €2.1 million has been set aside for emergency work that will be carried out «as quickly as possible, speeding up the contracting procedure», said the Government Sub-delegate in Málaga, Javier Salas.
This is a preliminary outline, pending observation of the natural dynamics of the coastline in the days following the storm and the assessment work that the technicians are still carrying out.
This first emergency plan provides an effective response to the main needs of the Málaga coastline, so that action can be taken efficiently once the period of storms on our coast has ended.
For the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the Beaches councillor, Eva Galindo, all the aid and responses offered by the supra-municipal bodies will be welcome, since storms are unpredictable, as in this case, when it struck the coast in the days before Holy Week.
