From 21 December to 4 January, both days included, the Castillo de la Duquesa area will undergo a change of look, becoming a Christmas Village as the festive dates approach; lights, poinsettias, candy canes, inflatable Christmas figures and a wide selection of decorations will be the main features of the area during the festive period. This Christmas atmosphere will be complemented by the display of a 17 m2 Nativity scene, which will be set up in the Castillo monument. The Nativity scene will be accompanied by a life-size Nativity tableau, which will decorate the parade ground of the monument.

In the same enclosure, as was done last year, the «Wishing Tree» will be set up, so that anyone who wishes can hang a keepsake and leave their most treasured wish for this time of year. The tree will be decorated from 21 December to 4 January, and this can be done during a visit to the Christmas village. In this way, the tree will become a symbol of solidarity, gathering the wishes of our municipality.

In addition, one of the new features of this Christmas village is a Children’s Workshop Area, with activities that will vary from day to day. Among them is the making of Christmas decorations to hang on the «Wishing Tree».

On 21, 22 and 23 December, all children who wish to can visit Father Christmas to tell him their Christmas wishes. He will give the children a small Christmas gift. Visits will take place on the days indicated from 18:00 to 21:00 at the Castillo monument.

On the first day of the village, two concerts will be given by the Manilva municipal Music School. On the 21st, the music and movement pupils and the junior band will perform from 18:00, and from 19:30 it will be the turn of the choir, which will give a concert of carols.

The Christmas village will also have an Inflatables Area, set up in the Parque del Huerto. It is also worth noting that this Christmas Village will have an ice-skating rink, as well as a Christmas Train, at affordable prices. Supervisors will be on hand to organise the groups, mark out the areas, control capacity and ensure compliance with the other health and safety measures required by the public authorities. The village will be open from 18:00 to 22:00.

On 2, 3 and 4 January, the Three Kings, accompanied by their Royal Pages, will also visit the Christmas Village. They will also give the youngest children a small gift, and anyone who wishes can hand over their letter with a request for their favourite presents.

All of these activities will be accompanied by a Market in the purest Christmas style, where visitors can taste traditional sweets and do some shopping.

The Culture department, headed by Alba Jiménez, has prepared this event with clear objectives in mind, given the circumstances of this year, 2021, as a result of COVID-19: to offer a different image of Christmas in our municipality, to keep the Christmas spirit and our traditions alive, without losing the spirit of collaboration, solidarity and unity that our town has shown over recent months, and, above all, to ensure that the excitement of young and old is never lost.
