Fundación Unicaja has today presented its 2023 Campus programme, one of the projects most representative of its commitment to the comprehensive education of children and young people. Once again this season, the institution presents an innovative range of leisure activities across the six camps it offers: Campus Nieve (Sierra Nevada), Sabinillas, Ronda, Baloncesto (Málaga), Náutico (Puerto de Santa María) and English Camp (Ronda).
The director of the Activities, Communication and Image Division of Fundación Unicaja, Cristina Rico, and the institution’s head of Sport and Leisure, Manuel Dorado, announced all the new features of this season, in which around 5,800 places are on offer so that children and teenagers can enjoy an unforgettable experience combining education, sport and, above all, fun.
Campus Nieve (ages 7-16) opens the season at an altitude of 2,100 metres, at the Sierra Nevada ski and mountain resort in Granada. This camp, which will take place from 26 February to 2 March, coinciding with the Semana Blanca (school winter break), is ideal for snow lovers and for young people who want to take up sports such as skiing and snowboarding or improve their skills. Besides the purely sporting side, this Campus offers other entertainment activities such as snow games, tubbing, treasure hunts and sledging, among many others. At the end of the day there are also evening events with entertainment games led by the instructors.
With 70 years of experience, Campus Sabinillas (ages 7-16) is one of the oldest and largest camps in Spain. It opens the summer period of the Fundación Unicaja Campus programme and more than 3,000 children take part in it every summer. During the six sessions of the new season, from 25 June to 23 August, participants will enjoy a shared living experience based on sport and contact with the sea.
Campus Ronda (ages 7-16) will take place from 1 to 29 July at the ‘Las Delicias’ holiday camp over four different sessions. It covers more than 3,000 square metres and, among its extensive programme of activities, the highlights include karting, zip-lining, abseiling, treetop circuits, kayaking and paintball.
Campus Baloncesto (ages 6-17) in Málaga offers a programme involving experienced coaches from the club Unicaja Baloncesto. It is a camp designed for those who like this sport, play in a team, or even want to pursue it professionally. Like the rest of the Fundación Unicaja Campus programmes, it offers other parallel activities and will again offer four sessions from 1 to 29 July. Each edition is visited by players from the men’s and women’s teams linked to Unicaja Baloncesto.
Campus Náutico (ages 7-16) at Coto de la Isleta in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) takes place from 22 July to 5 August in two sessions. At this camp, which focuses on water sports, participants can also enjoy the natural wealth of the surrounding area. The children will be able to take part in activities such as surfing, paddle surfing and motorboat trips, as well as visiting the city of Cádiz on a catamaran.
English Camp (ages 7-16), which begins on 30 July at the ‘Las Delicias’ holiday camp in Ronda, allows participants to improve their English through classes with native teachers. As something new, this edition offers a genuine international experience with Spanish classes for foreign children and young people. There, learning in classrooms and outdoors is combined with all kinds of leisure activities. It is the only Fundación Unicaja Campus that allows attendance for a full fortnight and it will run until 13 August in three different sessions.
Last summer, close to 5,000 young people enjoyed the Fundación Unicaja Campus programmes, which add new leisure proposals every year and are also in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), present in the design of each camp’s programme as well as in its management processes and activities.
Some of the new activities that were best received, and which will be organised again this year, are the ‘Magic Dome’ (evening events inside a dome where themes related to sport, leisure and free time are projected), ‘Jumping dance’ (dance on trampolines), ‘Escape room’ (a game of solving puzzles in order to leave a room within a limited time), virtual reality, recycling workshops, electric scooters, and new sports such as touchball, orienteering, footbasket, pickleball and multivolley.
