Bus shelters across the municipality are being improved

-

Bus stops in different parts of the municipality are being cleaned and painted after several years of complaints from users about their state of complete neglect and lack of maintenance.

This newsroom has been quite critical of the situation because of the constant complaints users sent us, without having received, until now, a satisfactory response from the governing team, which passed this responsibility on to the Junta de Andalucía.

The former leader of the opposition, Agustín Vargas, provided us, months before the elections, with an agreement signed by Manilva Town Hall and the Junta de Andalucía under which the local council could act to maintain the shelters. A few days after joining the governing team as the person in charge of public works, he committed to tidying up, refurbishing and installing the missing shelters before children had to use them again at the start of the new school year.

We remind readers that this street furniture is used mainly by children to shelter from windy and rainy days while waiting for the bus that takes them to their schools, and that, given the state the shelters were in, on rainy days it was very difficult for them to arrive at school in decent condition.

Although the glass panels still have to be replaced, and despite the goodwill to put an end to this problem and the work carried out, the neglect has been such that some of the shelters pose an evident safety risk. The structure is made of iron, and the rust caused by the corrosive effect of the coastal environment cannot be fixed with a coat of paint. Even so, the work done so far, in little less than two months at the head of the department, is at least very encouraging for all users of public transport.
