On 3 November, work was completed to refurbish the bus shelter at the Hacienda Guadalupe stop, which was repainted and fitted with glass panels, having been without them for more than 5 years. Many children use the stop to get a little shelter while they wait for the bus first thing in the morning.
The shelter lasted just 11 days and this time vandalism was not the cause. On 14 November, road workers cut it down with an angle grinder and removed it, to the astonishment and bewilderment of all the users, who could not believe it.
Given the work that preceded its removal, everything suggests that the Junta de Andalucía will replace it, as the surface where the previous shelter stood has been tidied up with new paving and tiling. Only the newly installed glass panels, which a local company had fitted just a few days earlier, could be salvaged. However, the date is not yet known and no further information has emerged.
The department responsible for their maintenance has confirmed the facts to us, pointing out that the Town Hall only has authority over the maintenance and upkeep of these shelters, but cannot install or remove this street furniture, which belongs to the Junta de Andalucía.
The reality is that, once again, the residents of Hacienda Guadalupe, especially the children, are left out in the open waiting for the bus in the mornings, hoping that an end will finally be put to this situation. In the 21st century, and with institutions sending out messages encouraging the use of public transport, it is incomprehensible that everything related to this service is not looked after with care.
