This morning we toured the beaches of the town together with municipal officials and technicians, following the easterly storm that has battered our coast.
The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the councillors for Infrastructure and Works, Diego José Jiménez, and for Beaches, Eva Galindo, have been assessing the damage caused, both on the beaches of Sabinillas and in Castillo.
According to the beaches councillor, on this occasion no reeds have washed up and the beaches have not been left as dirty as on so many other occasions, but some of the installed furniture has been moved, and there has been a loss of sand in some places, while in others sand has piled up, leaving the beaches uneven. The councillor said that from tomorrow the workers in the department she heads will begin working hard to restore the beaches to perfect condition as soon as possible.
For his part, the mayor referred to the aid that will be requested from other administrations. To this end, he has already contacted the Demarcación de Costas (the coastal authority), to which a detailed report on all the damage caused by this storm will have to be sent. The mayor said that the mayor’s office and the infrastructure and beaches departments will continue to work together.
The councillor for infrastructure and works said that since Friday municipal workers have been working to prevent possible flooding. In fact, on Saturday the stormwater outlets of the streams that had been blocked by the sand left by the easterly wind were cleaned again. The councillor reviewed the damage on the beaches of Sabinillas and also assessed that caused in Castillo, where special action will be needed, as some of the rocks of the breakwater that protects this area have been shifted by the force of the waves.
Once again the storm has left shocking images, such as those seen very close to the Estanquillo stream or at the Malibú beach bar, whose occupants went through moments of real fear on seeing the force of the sea. For this reason, Manilva Town Hall has repeatedly asked the supra-municipal authorities for the installation of transverse breakwaters to provide safety for the beaches, businesses and people living in the area.
