The AMPA Oleaje (parents’ association) of the Colegio de San Luis de Sabinillas has decided to step forward and call on the Education Delegation of the Junta de Andalucía for more specialist staff who can properly meet the special needs of the school. This is a problem that affects the whole municipality, as this school brings together the local children who require specialist attention.
In just one morning, they have gathered more than 150 signatures online, and they will add the paper signatures, which they will start collecting at the beginning of the week at various points around the municipality.
According to information obtained by this newsroom, the school fully supports these requests, which it has been making for some time. Manilva Town Hall, through its Education councillor Daniel Muñoz, has also backed the initiative and will try to give it the push it needs from the administration.

The text of the petition reads as follows:
«We request that the Education Delegation provide specific staffing resources to cater for diversity at CEIP San Luis de Sabinillas in Manilva (Málaga). For the 2021/2022 school year, the school has 35 pupils with specific educational support needs (NEAE).
These pupils require the attention of specialist teachers: therapeutic pedagogy (PT) and/or hearing and language (AL). Of this number, 15 boys and girls also have a Social Integration Technical Professional (PTIS) as a specific staffing resource in their psychopedagogical assessment report.
We currently have one full-time PT teacher, one hearing and language teacher who is shared with another school and who attends ours 3 days a week, and one PTIS.
Not only is the number of pupils high, but so too are their characteristics and needs in the personal and school spheres. The specialist educational attention these pupils receive is proving insufficient, subjecting the entire teaching staff to a situation of professional stress and pressure that makes it harder for them to carry out their excellent work in the conditions the public education community deserves. The pupils and their families are not receiving all the educational attention they need, given their specific educational support needs.
We feel it is an ethical obligation and a matter of social commitment to report this situation and to ask the Education Authority to reinforce, as the school has requested on many occasions, the provision of human resources for attention to diversity: we request that the hearing and language teacher be full-time at the school to attend to the pupils as they deserve, and that the school have another Social Integration Technical Professional (PTIS).
This is a fundamental right of pupils under Organic Law 3/2020 of 29 December, amending Organic Law 2/2006 of 3 May on Education (LOMLOE), published in the BOE on 30 December 2020. Resources must be where the pupils are, not waiting on an office desk.
