Residents of the Jardín Tropical housing development, located on the seafront in the municipality, are saddened and outraged. Its residents, including homes with small children, elderly people and some foreigners who have chosen to invest in the town, have once again been left without electricity for almost 24 hours by a fault. The fault was caused by a lack of maintenance of the electricity cabling, which, with the passing of the years and its proximity to the sea, is in a worrying condition. The development is surrounded by electricity cables, joined by telephone lines, full of «splices», repairs and open or uncovered boxes that cause constant problems for residents, problems for which Endesa disclaims responsibility.
The residents’ association itself has told this newsroom that for more than three years it has been asking the Town Hall for help in obtaining the permits and licences needed to carry out work to put the cables underground. The Town Hall’s own technicians have already inspected the problem on site, and even the previous town council saw the possibility of making the work needed to solve these problems feasible. The association has its own budget set aside for this, but it needs the corresponding help from the Town Hall to get the work under way.
