Work under way to cover over the El Estanquillo stream in El Castillo

-

The Manilva Town Hall, through the Mayor’s Office, Infrastructure and Works, and Environment departments, announced today an improvement project aimed at significantly revitalising the El Castillo de La Duquesa area, specifically the surroundings of the El Estanquillo stream, which runs through the whole of this residential area.

The initiative responds to the unsanitary conditions which, regrettably, have led to a proliferation of insects and bad smells, as residents of the area have repeatedly pointed out. In this regard, the Town Hall committed to resolving the situation by carrying out a major work, which will involve levelling the banks of the stream.

Against this background, an official visit to the area was held today, Tuesday, led by the mayor of Manilva, José Manuel Fernández, and accompanied by the councillors for Infrastructure and Works, Agustín Vargas, and for Environment, Noelia Muñoz, as well as technicians from the Diputación de Málaga and the Town Hall itself.

The project, which has been included in the Diputación de Málaga’s concertation plans for 2024, involves creating a continuous link by covering over the stream using concrete box culverts, extending from the level of the motorway to the bridge in the coastal area. This approach will result in a clear, level surface that will not only resolve the existing problem but also provide opportunities for creating leisure and recreation areas.

Carrying out this significant work is subject to obtaining the relevant permits from supramunicipal bodies, such as the Demarcación de Costas (Coastal Authority). However, its completion is expected to be an effective solution to the problem affecting residents of El Castillo de La Duquesa.
