The VOX Provincial Group in the Diputación de Málaga has submitted a motion, at the initiative of Antonio Marín, VOX councillor in Manilva, regarding the «necessary refurbishment of the Casa de la Cultura building in Manilva», so that, according to VOX spokesperson Antonio Luna, it «can once again become a revitalising element of the municipality’s social life».
The Casa de la Cultura in Manilva, Luna explained, «has served for years as a space for artistic expression, cultural events, workshops, social action, the Municipal Library and educational activities, and its ground floor currently houses the Hogar del Jubilado (retirees’ centre)».
Delving into the problem behind the VOX initiative, Luna pointed out that, «for years, there has been a municipal technical report which finds that the Casa de la Cultura in Manilva has deteriorated and needs refurbishment so that it can meet safety, accessibility and functionality standards».
The building is more than 40 years old, the VOX councillor explained, and «has various defects that make repairing it a priority, as its structure is affected and the roof suffers water leaks». He continued that it also «requires adaptation works, as it has no access for people with reduced mobility and has no lift».
Nowadays, the VOX Provincial Deputy said, «the safety of the building and of its users is not guaranteed, and many activities that used to take place in the Casa de la Cultura have had to be moved to other municipal premises». Furthermore, he stressed, «the financial situation of the municipality of Manilva is not exactly the best, owing to the debt inherited from previous governments». For this reason, VOX has requested that «the Diputación de Málaga promote the comprehensive refurbishment of the Casa de la Cultura building in Manilva».
An initiative which, Luna emphasised in conclusion, «will undoubtedly help to improve the social life of the residents of Manilva, as well as help to preserve the much-needed public spaces in the municipality». Thus, «the support of all political groups is essential to end a situation that the people of the municipality have been suffering for far too long».
