The VOX Municipal Group in Manilva has filed a motion requesting the establishment of a municipal protection ordinance which, as a general rule, would not grant building licences in archaeological areas declared Assets of Cultural Interest (BIC) or that may be eligible to be so declared.
Antonio Marín, spokesperson for the VOX Municipal Group in Manilva, explained that from a technical point of view, «construction in areas declared BIC that contain archaeological sites can cause irreversible impacts, such as alterations to the surroundings, vibrations and changes to the archaeological context, hindering or making impossible future research and conservation work».
This VOX motion has been filed after Antonio Marín himself reported that in the archaeological zone ‘Entorno del Castillo de la Duquesa’, an area classified as an Asset of Cultural Interest, work is being carried out that could damage the municipality’s archaeological heritage.
«We cannot understand it», Marín said. «Construction and the preservation of archaeological heritage are hardly compatible», he added.
For this reason, VOX is taking a motion to the next council meeting to protect this archaeological zone in Manilva and the other areas with outstanding archaeological value.
In addition, VOX also asks that, for those properties with favourable reports from the supra-municipal authorities responsible for safeguarding historical, artistic and cultural heritage, an exchange be offered for other land that benefits both parties and protects a heritage that should belong to all the people of Manilva.
