Following the acceptance of an amendment submitted by the VOX Manilva Municipal Group during the recent Extraordinary Council Meeting, the council meeting approved a reduction of the Property Tax (IBI) to 0.5%. The measure aims to ease the tax burden on Manilva residents ahead of the compulsory introduction of the rubbish collection charge planned for 2025. The vote was carried with 9 votes in favour (Compromiso, PSOE and VOX) and 8 against (PP and Con Andalucía Izquierda Unida).
Antonio Marín, VOX spokesman in Manilva, welcomed the decision, stressing that “his group’s amendment was key to adding a second point to the original motion”. This point calls for “the drawing up of a new municipal adjustment plan that includes the aforementioned IBI reduction”.
In his address during the council meeting, Marín stated that his commitment is that “the people of Manilva, and Spaniards in general, should not have to bear the consequences of mistaken decisions taken in Europe and ratified at national level”.
The spokesman pointed out that “the imposition of the rubbish collection charge is the result of agreements approved in the European Parliament, with the support of the Partido Popular and the Socialist Party, which reflects the lack of clarity in the messages of both parties”.
In this regard, the VOX councillor explained that “on 18 April 2018, PSOE and PP voted in favour of this measure in Europe, and later, on 8 April 2022, PSOE brought it to the Spanish Parliament with the abstention of the PP”. He lamented that “some push it and others look the other way, but in the end the consequences fall on the public”.
Marín also strongly criticised the growing tax burden in Spain, describing it as “unbearable” and noting that “the decisions taken under the 2030 Agenda, although presented as attractive global initiatives, end up becoming taxes that directly hit our neighbours’ pockets.” These decisions, he added, “may look good on paper, but they turn into numbers, and those numbers are taxes that people cannot bear”.
VOX thus reaffirms its commitment to reducing the tax burden as one of its main priorities, defending the residents of Manilva against policies it considers unfair and disproportionate. “Cutting the IBI is a necessary step to ease the finances of Manilva families and offset the impact of measures imposed from Europe,” concluded Antonio Marín.
