Verdemar Ecologistas en Acción has submitted objections to the reclaimed water concession requested for the La Utrera mining operation, considering that it worsens an environmental and health situation that is already critical.
The organisation complains that the authorities have not assessed the cumulative and synergistic impacts of all the activities existing in the area —quarry, asphalt plants, aggregate processing, heavy traffic and motorway—, which could breach environmental regulations and the case law of the Supreme Court and the CJEU.
Verdemar warns of continuous emissions of PM10 and PM2.5 particles, affecting residents, wildlife, homes and motorway users, posing a risk to public health and road safety.
It therefore calls for the concession to be revoked, for a review of compliance with the Unified Environmental Authorisation (Autorización Ambiental Unificada) and for a joint environmental assessment of the whole industrial complex.
