Verdemar has asked Manilva Town Hall for information on the earthworks and construction of new homes in Bahía de las Rocas, and warns that they could affect the Calataraje–Chullera Green Corridor, an area of great environmental value.
The organisation Verdemar Ecologistas en Acción has requested information from the Town Hall on the earthworks and construction of new homes in the Bahía de las Rocas area, in the municipality of Manilva.
Specifically, the environmentalists are requesting information on the earthworks and development works being carried out on Avenida Sierra Nevada, next to the Calalaraje stream, which flows into Playa de la Chullera.
The accumulation of aggregates and building materials has also been detected within the easement strip of the stream, which could mean an alteration of its channel, as well as a breach of the Water Act and the regulations on protective easements for the public water domain.
This accumulation of aggregates and materials is located at a new development of recently completed homes, built by the company Metrovacesa.
“According to sources consulted, these homes are awaiting the first occupation licence from Manilva Town Hall, but this licence will not be granted allowing the new homes to be occupied until these materials and aggregates are removed”, said a spokesperson for the environmental group.
These events could be directly affecting the Calataraje–Chullera Green Corridor, an area of environmental value that acts as an ecological link and should be protected from urban development impacts.
On another plot next to the stream, geotechnical studies are also being carried out for the construction of a new housing development on two plots with a buildable area of 17,000 m² in Bahía de las Rocas, to build 153 homes.
The environmentalists have asked for information on the legal and administrative status of the works and licences; a detailed list of any existing reports and complaints regarding the matters raised, and the administrative and judicial actions taken or planned to put an end to these actions and restore the environment of the area.
All of this is in accordance with Article 3.1.a) of Law 27/2006, of 18 July, regulating the rights of access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters.
