Vázquez retains his title as Spanish Champion

The Manilva resident shines once again, representing Club Ciclista Manilva, at the Spanish MTB Championship for Local Police Officers held in Molina de Segura.

Excellent news comes from Molina de Segura (Murcia), where the Spanish MTB Championship for Local Police Officers has once again crowned Manilva resident Francisco Vázquez Tocón as Spanish Champion in the Master 40 category, retaining the title he first won in 2024. The race, which brought together officers from across the country, took place on Saturday in the Murcian town of Molina de Segura.

The event was organised by the Asociación Deportiva de Policías ADEPOL Molina, in collaboration with the town’s Local Police, and saw the participation of more than a hundred serving officers. The competition was held on a demanding circuit that ran through the La Alcayna housing development and the natural area of Coto Cuadros, providing an ideal setting for high-level MTB.

Vázquez once again showed his excellent form on the Murcian course, completing the three laps of the circuit with ease and always remaining among the leading positions.

A race of a high sporting standard

During the presentation of the event, the mayor of Molina de Segura, José Ángel Alfonso, said that this edition represents “an opportunity to show the camaraderie and twinning between the different local police forces of the country”. Along the same lines, the Local Police councillor, Antonio Martínez, stressed that the race is reserved exclusively for serving officers and official teams, with the aim of encouraging institutional participation and sporting spirit among colleagues in the profession.

The competition, which this year celebrates its 27th edition, has a single-race format and is held annually in a different city. The choice of Molina de Segura as host was made by the Technical Committee in September 2024.

A demanding circuit, highly rated by participants

The start took place at 10:00 from the Restaurante El Portón de la Condesa, with a three-lap course for the Elite, Master 30 and Master 40 categories, in which the highest level of competition was concentrated. The organisers have received praise both for the logistics and for the technical quality of the circuit, perfectly adapted to the natural terrain of Coto Cuadros.

In addition to the individual prizes, awards were also presented to teams and in the various age and gender categories.

Vázquez completed the three laps of the circuit, a total of 43 kilometres, in a time of 1 hour 45 minutes.

Manilva well represented

Andrés Benítez, a local police officer in Manilva and a cycling enthusiast, also travelled to Molina de Segura to represent the club Andalucía Nature, putting in a good performance and finishing 29th in his category with a time of 2 hours 32 minutes.
