Unemployment in Manilva has risen for the second consecutive month, mainly due to seasonal employment. Even so, we would have to go back to 2008 to find better figures for a September in terms of the number of people out of work. Compared with recent years, unemployment has almost always risen in September. In total, September ends with 962 (+35) unemployed people in the town, of whom 376 (+9) are men and 586 (+26) are women.
At provincial level, September has broken the run of seven consecutive monthly falls in unemployment in Málaga that began last February, with an increase of 1,290 unemployed, leaving the total in the province at 117,632 people. This would also be the lowest figure for that month since 2008.
At regional level, September was a bad month for employment in Andalusia, with unemployment rising by 7,720 people and the number of contributors to Social Security falling by 12,000. The number of unemployed stands at 647,054 after a rise of 1.21%, the second consecutive monthly increase in this statistic. Even so, compared with September 2023, there are currently 65,150 fewer unemployed people in the region than then.
In Spain, unemployment rose by 3,164 people compared with the previous month, reaching 2.5 million unemployed. Women account for the whole of the increase, as the number of unemployed men rose by only 84. Despite the rise, the figure is the lowest in 17 years and remains the lowest since the bursting of the property bubble.
