The labour market continues to offer very positive figures in Manilva. June 2026 closed with 808 unemployed people, a fall of 73 compared with May, when 881 people were registered as unemployed.
The municipality has now recorded six consecutive months of falling unemployment, consolidating a positive trend that coincides with the start of the peak tourist season, the main economic driver of the town.
The June figure also represents a reduction of 8.3% on the previous month and improves the year-on-year comparison, as in June 2025 unemployment stood at 852 people, 44 more unemployed than at present.
Unemployment falls among both men and women
The improvement in the labour market is seen across both sexes. Female unemployment fell by 48, from 539 to 491 women, while male unemployment fell by 25, to 317 men, compared with 342 in May.
Women continue to account for the larger share of unemployment in the municipality, at approximately 61% of the total, although the fall recorded in June was especially pronounced among this group.
The services sector continues to account for most unemployment
Manilva’s economic structure continues to be shaped by the weight of the services sector, which is closely linked to tourism. Of the 808 unemployed people registered, 542 belong to the services sector, which represents around 67% of the total.
The remainder of those out of work are divided between people with no previous employment (119), construction (91), industry (31) and agriculture and fishing (25), maintaining a distribution very similar to that of recent months.
The arrival of summer and the increase in activity in hospitality, retail and tourist services remain the main factors driving job creation in the municipality.
Provincial, regional and national figures
Manilva’s performance is part of a widespread positive trend. In the province of Málaga, unemployment fell again in June to below 100,000 for the first time in almost two decades, thanks to the boost in hiring linked to the summer season.
In Andalucía, unemployment fell by 11,597 people, to 536,523 unemployed, the best figure for a month of June since 2008. The services sector again led job creation and the region recorded falls in unemployment among men and women, as well as among young people and those over 25.
In Spain as a whole, registered unemployment fell by 28,739 people, to a total of 2,291,982 unemployed, the lowest level since January 2008. At the same time, Social Security affiliation reached a new all-time high of 22.47 million contributors, driven mainly by retail, hospitality and the start of the summer season.
The June figures reinforce the positive performance of employment in Manilva, which has maintained a sustained downward trend throughout 2026 and is benefiting, for another year, from the economic dynamism associated with the tourist season.
