Unanimous approval for the refurbishment of the Casa de la Cultura

-

At the latest meeting of the Diputación Provincial de Málaga (Málaga Provincial Council), VOX’s initiative to refurbish the Casa de la Cultura building in Manilva was approved unanimously. The initiative was put forward by the VOX group in the Diputación de Málaga, at the request of the VOX councillor in Manilva, Antonio Marín, in response to long-standing problems that have prevented the Casa de la Cultura from serving the residents of Manilva.

According to Antonio Luna, VOX spokesperson in the Diputación Provincial, the Casa de la Cultura de Manilva «has played a crucial role for years as a centre for artistic expression, cultural events, workshops and social action activities, housing the Municipal Library and educational activities». It currently «also houses the Hogar del Jubilado (pensioners’ club) on its ground floor».

Luna highlighted the «urgent need to refurbish this emblematic building, with more than 40 years of history, so that it meets safety, accessibility and functionality standards». A municipal technical report had already pointed to the deterioration of the Casa de la Cultura, noting structural problems and water leaks in the roof. The building, the VOX provincial deputy added, «also lacks facilities for people with reduced mobility, such as suitable access and a lift».

Antonio Luna went on to say that, at present, «the safety of the building and its users is compromised, which has forced many of its activities to be moved to other municipal premises». He also pointed to Manilva’s «delicate financial situation, made worse by debt inherited from previous governments». For this reason, VOX has put forward this initiative, asking the Diputación de Málaga for support for a comprehensive refurbishment of the building.

According to Luna, this initiative «is essential to improve the social life of Manilva’s residents and to preserve vital public spaces in the municipality». The deputy therefore expressed his satisfaction at having the unanimous backing of all political groups to resolve a situation that «the people of the municipality have put up with for too long». This consensus «marks a significant step towards the revitalisation of this important cultural and social space, benefiting the Manilva community and reaffirming the commitment of VOX and the Diputación to the conservation of cultural heritage and the improvement of public infrastructure», concluded Antonio Luna.
