Manilva has a new reason for hope in its campaign for a second secondary school. The draft Junta de Andalucía budget for 2027 expressly includes the drafting of the project for the new IES Las Viñas, an inclusion that for the first time shows this progress in an official document. The provision is a first step towards moving forward the long-awaited second school in the town, although the funding for the building work has yet to be finalised.
The reference appears among the commitments on educational infrastructure planned for the province of Málaga, to which this newsroom has had access. Although no specific allocation for building the school is yet detailed, the inclusion of the drafting of the project is an important step towards allowing the initiative to continue moving forward.
The president of the PP in Manilva, José Manuel Fernández, has also highlighted the inclusion of the drafting of the project in the Andalusian accounts in a social media post, noting that it is an advance along the road that still lies ahead.
The news comes after years of campaigning by families and the education community. IES Las Viñas, designed for around 700 pupils, currently has close to 1,400, with spaces such as the library and other rooms adapted for teaching classes.
The inclusion of the drafting of the project does not mean that the building work already has guaranteed funding or a start date, but it does allow for some satisfaction that the new school is expressly included in the Junta’s budget planning. For Manilva, it is a step that fuels hope that the demand for a second school will begin to translate into concrete progress.
