The Fiesta de la Vendimia (the Grape Harvest Festival) will be held in Sabinillas next year; this was the most controversial point of this morning’s meeting, at which the new programme of festivities for the next 3 years was announced. The meeting, attended by the entire governing team, discussed the measures and details of the new management model, which aims to rotate all the local festivals so that the municipality’s three districts all have the chance to enjoy them.
The aim of these measures, besides making the festivals more accessible to all residents, is to give them a change of feel, modernise them and adapt them to current times, while also achieving a significant saving of 33% on the previous year’s budget.
The Fiesta de la Vendimia, one of the popular festivals most traditionally rooted in the Manilva district, will move to the Parque del Duque in Sabinillas as the main venue for the various performances and the traditional grape stomping, extending the festival along the seafront promenade.
La Noche del Embrujo disappears from the calendar to make way for the Noche de la Luna Llena, which will be held on calle Mar in Manilva.
In a year in which the fairs in the districts of Manilva, Sabinillas and El Castillo are being dropped, the Feria del Hondón returns in September, a fair that has always brought together hundreds of residents with its traditional ceremony to choose the queens and ladies.
San Juan will continue to be celebrated in Sabinillas, but the festival of the Virgen del Carmen could move to the Manilva district, pending some details to be put to a vote at the next council meeting, which will be held at the beginning of the year.
