The Fiesta de la Vendimia (the Grape Harvest Festival) is celebrated this weekend

This week, with the Fiesta de la Vendimia, we will close the programme of festive activities that has been taking place in our town since June.

On Saturday 3 September, the activities designed for the weekend get under way, led by the festivals department of Manilva Town Hall, headed by Daniel Muñoz.

The culture department also takes part in these celebrations. Together with the Cofradía de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores y Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, it is organising the liturgical events, which will begin at 19:00 with a holy mass sung by the Coro de la Escuela Municipal de Música de Manilva. Afterwards, the image of the Virgin will go out in procession accompanied by the Banda Municipal de Música.

One of the most important moments of this celebration will come when the farmers make an offering of the fruit of their vines to the image of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, which will stop beside the stage set up on calle Mar.

Organised by the culture, festivals and agriculture departments, with the collaboration of the brotherhood itself, there will also be a bunch-of-grapes competition, with prizes for the heaviest bunches.

At 22:00, music and dancing will be provided by the orchestras “Latidos” and “Grupo Trenzao”, and in the plaza de la Vendimia the resident DJs “Alex Ocaña” and “DJ Pajaro” will play the best hits of the moment, organised by the festivals and youth departments.

Sunday 4 September is the main day of the celebrations, with the Vendimia “domingo rociero” (Rocío-style Sunday). At midday there will be a tasting of both wine and grapes from our land, and residents will be given traditional gifts.

At 13:00 the fiesta will be officially opened on calle Mar, and half an hour later the horse riders’ parade will take place.

From 14:00 there will be music from the groups “Latidos” and “Compás Flamenco”. These groups will play throughout the day on the various stages on calle Mar.

In the plaza de la Vendimia, from 16:00 and throughout the day, the resident DJs “Alex Ocaña” and “DJ Pajaro” will play the best hits.

At 19:00 we will experience one of the most emotional moments of these celebrations, with one of the most typical images of Manilva: the traditional grape treading in the wine press in the plaza de la Vendimia, and the tasting of the first wine of the season.

From 21:30, as a finale to the celebrations, the group “Los Mickis” will perform, delighting us with great songs.

After the concert, a fireworks display will bring the festivities to a close.
